I spoke with an HR Manager last week, who, I’m happy to say, is now a client. She discussed her frustration with staffing firms when her company was in search of a Full-Stack Developer, but all the candidates they received from popular staffing firms failed to pass their final interviews with my client’s IT Engineering Manager. It can be frustrating when staffing firms lack a niche focus. I, myself, have 22 years of experience working in IT, but despite my diverse background in technology, programming is not my forte. The recruiter simply failed to do what they were being paid to do. This recurring issue has been observed with several staffing firms that are solely focused on the numbers game, simply assuming that a good recruiter can filter through the noise. In fact, one of them even told my client that they had placed hundreds of programmers in various positions without any problems and that their IT Engineering Manager was being too picky. Just because a handful of candidate placements have worked in the past does not make you an expert in software engineering. There’s no one-size-fits-all model. Also, the recruiting world is ever-changing, and technology is advancing at a rapid pace. A strategy used in the past may not work in today’s world.
